I have adapted and amalgamated my own form of GTD because I really think the original one of it is best for consultant/CEO level people. This is my experience with piles. Paper is piled on the desk and then goes into a file in the desk or is placed in a 'logical' place (somewhere). If I need to retrieve the paper(s) within a relatively short period of time from the time I filed it then I have no problem finding it. However yesterday I tried to locate a manual for my computer monitor which I haven't referenced in well over a year and now I can't find it to save my life.
